Why are so many of the crazy people you see on the street of the evangelical type?

You never see an atheist screaming people on the street to NOT believe in god, or holding a copy of Origin of the Species and telling everyone they have to read this book.

Why is it that only religious people seem to be crazy in that way?

I don’t think that it’s a matter of evangelicals being crazy. One of the symptoms of mental illness, especially schizophrenia, in hyper-religiosity… an overwhelming preoccupation with religion. So the people you see screaming, running sown the street in their slippers and housecoat aren’t right-wing nut bars. They’re mentally ill.

    Genesis 1:1
On the first day, God made lunatics. Before she could round them all up, they escaped and became evangelists.

Because when atheists go crazy, we don’t go out into the street and shout at people. We commit homicide.

Zealots are traditionally nuts…they just need a subject. Religion is a broad subject many can sink their rabid teeth into, so that is where they go!

Sit down with a group of atheists and they will be as adamant in their disbelief as religious people are in their beliefs. Ironically, atheists ARE religious. They as a group share the same religious belief, that God doesn’t exist. In order to deny the existence of God, you have to accept HE exists. Otherwise, there would be no one to deny so why even bother labeling yourself as someone who doesn’t believe in God? The one thing atheists have in their favor is that God believes in them!

When people do things out of the ordinary, they appear crazy to others. Those "lunatics" are crazy for their God and it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. :-)

How athiests live doesn’t appear crazy to you? Perhaps not, because that’s your world, and what appears "normal" to you may not be to the "believers".

What "you fear of them", they find rather normal, what "they fear of you", you tend to find normal.

Two different ways of thinking is all it is. Take care.

It just doesn’t make any sense for someone to run around and say "believe in nothing." Personally I have seen rabid atheists too but I agree that the simple minded do seem to gravitate to religions. Perhaps the atheists are not as sincere in recruiting followers because after all atheists are not really following. It may be more accurate to say they are walking away.

It is said that one man’s meat may be another man’s poison. What is crazy to you (or seems so), may not be crazy to me. Okay, some of those evangelicals DO come on a little bit too strong. Or a lot. Just try to ignore them and let them do their own thing. Do what makes you happy. Like find yourself a nice park bench and read "The Origin of Species".
